Exterior Plant Specialist
Horticultural Maintenance
This is a performance role. Not a task role.
If you are looking for a job where you are told what to do, this is not it.
If you take ownership, make decisions in the field, and hold a high personal standard—keep reading.
Purpose
We shape environments that influence behavior, focus energy, and create lasting impact.
Why This Role Exists
Exterior environments are exposed, dynamic systems.
Weather, seasonality, and urban conditions constantly test their integrity.
Without disciplined, informed care, they decline—quickly and visibly.
This role exists to ensure that never happens.
You are responsible for how environments perform.
Not occasionally. Every time they are seen.
What You Own
Plant Performance
You are accountable for the health, structure, and appearance of all plant material on your route.
The Route
You manage your route with precision. Timing, sequencing, and follow-through matter.
Real-Time Client Presence
You assess, communicate, and resolve issues directly—without escalation.
Judgment
You make decisions in the field. You do not wait to be told what to do.
The Standard
You operate at a level that reflects the Hoffman Design Group standard at all times.
What This Role Requires
- Proven experience in horticulture or landscape maintenance
- Ability to work independently
- Confidence interacting with clients
- Strong judgment and decision-making
- Attention to detail
- Physical capability for outdoor work
- Valid driver’s license
What Will Not Work Here
- Waiting for direction
- Missing details
- Avoiding client interaction
- Doing the minimum required
- Blaming conditions
Compensation
Starting at $25/hour+, based on demonstrated ability.
Higher compensation is earned through performance—not tenure.
Full-time benefits include 401k with match and health, dental, and vision insurance.
What Success Looks Like
- Environments consistently perform at a high level
- Problems are solved before they are seen
- Clients trust the work
- The standard is upheld without supervision
Pre-Application Questions
Please answer both questions clearly and specifically. We are looking for real examples, not general approaches. Vague or incomplete responses will not be considered.
1. Describe a time you identified and resolved a problem in the field without being told what to do.
What did you notice, what action did you take, and what was the outcome?
2. Describe a situation where you had to resolve an issue with an upset, frustrated, or agitated client.
What was happening, how did you handle it in the moment, and what was the outcome?
